Tooth Extractions and Bone Grafting

Do you have a tooth that is giving you a great deal of pain? Maybe the tooth is beyond the point of saving and needs to be removed, then replaced. Perhaps the tooth has cracked, needs to come out, and you want to replace it with a dental Implant . Then an Extraction with Bone Graftingmay be what you need! With bone grafting, the extraction site heals and provides an area that is ideal for placing the implant. Without bone grafting, the extraction site will shrink and lose more bone, compromising the adjacent teeth.

The procedure involves numbing the area to relieve any discomfort, then removing the tooth.  After the tooth is out, we will place an appropriate amount of bone grafting material in the extraction site, close it up with stitches, and allow it to heal. Afterwards, we  will advise you of what post extraction regimen to follow.  In most cases, a small amount of bleeding is normal. For the first few days, if you must rinse, rinse your mouth gently – do not swish. Afterward, for pain or swelling, apply a cold cloth or an ice bag. You can brush and floss the other teeth as usual, but don’t clean the teeth next to the extraction area.
