A Cosmetic Dentist Can Repair Your Damaged Tooth

May 14, 2014

As an experienced cosmetic dentist, we have several ways to correct damaged teeth. Whether your tooth is cracked, chipped, or broken we have solutions to repair it. Your teeth are made of strong and durable enamel, but over time the minerals on your teeth start to wear away. As they do, your teeth become more susceptible to becoming damaged. There are things you can do to strengthen your teeth like brushing with fluoride toothpaste, eating crunchy nuts and vegetables, and having in-office fluoride treatments. Even with regular preventative care there are things that can cause your teeth to become damaged. Getting into a car accident, rough-housing, playing sports, running into something, or biting down on something hard can all cause your teeth to become chipped or cracked. Severe accidents can even cause your tooth to get knocked out. When possible we will try to save your natural tooth but if that is not an option as , we can install a dental implant in its place. If your tooth has simply become cracked or chipped, we can use a dental veneer to correct it. Veneers look like your natural teeth, but they are actually a synthetic front that sits on the top of your tooth. In addition to fixing a damaged tooth, a veneer can also be used to close small gaps in between teeth and make teeth even. This is an ideal solution for someone that wants a perfectly symmetrical smile, but doesn’t want to wear braces. As a cosmetic dentist, we can use veneers to improve your overall smile. Another option for repairing damaged teeth is placing a crown on top of it. This is used more frequently in back teeth, as a crown surrounds the entire tooth. A crown will add stability and strength to your tooth and is often an ideal solution after a tooth or root infection, and preceding root canal. Crowns used to be mostly made of metal and stood out inside of your mouth. Now they can be made of a natural looking ceramic material that will blend in with your existing teeth. When a natural tooth is damaged beyond repair and needs to be removed, there are several options for putting a new tooth in its place. Dental implants can be placed securely in your mouth using a metal synthetic root system. They are extremely secure because the metal piece is placed underneath the gum line and attached to your jawbone. The implant will look and feel like a natural tooth and you will be able to eat all of your favorite foods without fear of its falling out of place. If you don’t want to have implants there are additional options that include crowns, bridges, and dentures. Modern technology has made it possible for a cosmetic dentist to use one or all of these options when restoring damaged or missing teeth. By giving patients options we are able to come up with a solution that they are comfortable with and create a plan for turning their damaged teeth into something beautiful.
